Light and dark
Click the theme switch in the top bar, or run
domicile theme toggle, to switch until you log out. To keep a theme:
Open Settings, then Appearance, and pick a Theme.
Apps that follow the system's theme switch with it.
Color, contrast and motion
On Appearance:
- Accent color: the color of highlights, in the desktop and in apps that follow it.
- Contrast: High draws text and edges at full strength.
- Reduce motion: animations run once, at their shortest.
- Icon theme: the icons in the launcher, title bars and menus, such as
Papirus-Dark.
Pointer and fonts
These are in the config file only:
{ "theme": { "cursor_theme": { "dark": "Bibata-Modern-Ice", "light": "Bibata-Modern-Classic" }, "cursor_size": 24, "font_name": "Inter 11", "monospace_font_name": "Iosevka 12" }}- A cursor theme can be one name, or one per theme as above.
- Install icon and cursor themes the usual way, so they are under an
iconsfolder, such as~/.local/share/icons. - Fonts apply to apps that follow the system's font.
- The desktop itself draws its text in Inter. Pick another installed face with
the manganese shell's
fontoption.
Dark sites
Some sites, such as Gmail, have no dark look. List them, and the browser darkens them while the desktop is dark:
{ "theme": { "force_dark": ["mail.google.com"] } }Wallpaper
The wallpaper is a photograph that changes every minute: night scenes in the dark theme, daylight ones in the light theme, in a random order that reshuffles each time through. An app that sets a wallpaper, such as an image viewer's "Set as wallpaper", replaces it.
Choose the photos
Set wallpapers in a config module: a list
for each theme. Each entry is one of:
- a web address of an image;
- an image file, such as
~/Pictures/beach.jpg; - a folder: every image in it, by name.
A theme you leave out keeps the built-in photos.
import { runManganese } from "@domicile-desktop/manganese";export const Shell = runManganese({ wallpapers: { dark: ["~/Pictures/Wallpapers/Dark"], light: ["~/Pictures/Wallpapers/Light", "https://example.com/beach.jpg"], },});- Paths start with
/or~/. A folder is read when the desktop starts. - To add to the built-in photos, start from
DEFAULT_WALLPAPERS:dark: [...DEFAULT_WALLPAPERS.dark, "~/Pictures/Night"]. commonsPhoto("File name.jpg")gives the address of a Wikimedia Commons file, at 4K.- Both come from
@domicile-desktop/manganese. - Use photos at least as wide as your widest monitor. They are cropped to fill each monitor.
All the options, with defaults: The config file.
